HOW RUNPILOT WORKS

See how one decision
changes the whole network.

Bring geography, engineering and investment choices into one workflow. Use the RunPilot platform, connect it to your tools or work with our team on a defined infrastructure decision.

STEP 01 / 05

Start with the real constraints.

Locate supply and demand. Bring together geography, land constraints and engineering requirements so the options begin with the project context.

BUILD YOUR BUSINESS CASE

What would better decisions be worth?

Estimate the value of fewer project delays and less planning work. Start with your infrastructure, test your assumptions and see what it would take for the investment to pay back.

Enter your project assumptions and compare delay and planning savings.*

01Your infrastructure

Hydrogen: consider connection dependencies, offtake timing and contractor standby. Use net contribution rather than gross sales for delayed operation.

Use one project and assessment period. Currency changes the label, not the amounts.

02Delay you could help avoid

The share of delay you expect better planning to avoid.

Exclude financing added below and planning costs counted in section 03.

7.5 expected calendar days avoided, weighted by the likelihood of delay.

Add financing exposure (optional)

Capital exposed to delay. Leave zero when financing is already in your daily cost.

03Planning work you could save

Use 0% for staff time redeployed. Include only avoided spend in cash savings.

04Cost of the investment

Your quoted platform or service cost for this period.

RESEARCH FOUNDATIONS

Plan for demand that can change.

Hammond and Brown’s published hydrogen infrastructure research studies route selection and hydraulic sizing across demand scenarios and investment periods. It provides a concrete foundation for discussions about uncertainty and staged development.

* About the examples. Diagrams and demand indices illustrate the workflow. Research methods and integrations are scoped for each project.

* Business case. Starting values are examples, not benchmarks or promised savings. Replace them with project evidence. Estimates are undiscounted and exclude non-cash outcomes. Infrastructure type changes the prompts, not the calculation.

Business case calculations and assumptions
Expected delay days avoided
Potential delay days × likelihood of delay × avoidable share.
Delay benefit
Expected days avoided × (additional daily cost + capital tied up × annual financing rate ÷ 365).
Planning time value
Team size × workdays per person × effort reduction × person-day cost.
Planning cash saving
Planning time value × the share that reduces cash spend.
Cash ROI
(Delay benefit + planning cash saving − RunPilot cost − setup cost) ÷ (RunPilot cost + setup cost) × 100.

Percentage inputs are divided by 100 in the calculation.

Count each cost once. Delay costs should cover genuine incremental cost or lost net contribution, not gross revenue. Remove planning and financing amounts already counted elsewhere. Use the same project scope, assessment period and price basis throughout.

Record where each assumption comes from and validate it with your finance and engineering teams. Separating cash savings from released capacity and avoiding duplicate benefits is consistent with the UK Digital and Data Benefits framework.
